PRESS RELEASE A screenplay based on a novel by a Dorset writer has been published. World War II story Stronghold of Happiness by Devina Symes from Dorchester is about a fictional family and their struggles and successes during this period. It has already been made into a play, most recently performed at the Corn Exchange in September, but now the author wants to see it on the big screen. “It’s a gripping story,” says publisher Tim Saunders, “and apart from the well researched history and a sprinkling of romance, there’s also a very strong message about how women can overcome abuse. Overall it’s a good news story and we need more of those. I shall be targeting selected television and film production companies.” PRESS RELEASE A Devon writer has had a memoir about her childhood in Eastern Asia published. Hong Kong: Memories, Stories & Anecdotes from My Colonial Childhood 1955 to 1968 by Mary Levycky from Plymouth charts her life growing up in Hong Kong in the 1950s and 1960s. “It was initially instigated by my niece asking questions about my childhood,” she recalls. Writing to her brought it home to her, sadly, that her era was now long gone, just like so many of the protagonists in her stories; her mother, father and all their friends, her grandparents and many others. “I realised that if my life during these years remained unrecorded it would be as if it had never existed, and an entire world in which I and so many had flourished and developed could disappear just like dust in the wind,” says Mary. Hong Kong: Memories, Stories & Anecdotes from My Colonial Childhood 1955 to 1968 is published by Tim Saunders Publications and is available online and in all good bookshops.
